When it came to disco records, there were many references to Doctors. We had "Doctor Love", "Les the Mix Doctor Adams", "Doctor Doctor" by the Thompson Twins, Heck even Pete Burns needed to see a Doctor when his heart went "Bang Bang"! This is "Dr Sex"...subtle title isn't it. Pleasure and the Beast turned out to be a "One Single" phenomena like many disco artists throughout the 80's.It also featured prominently on the very popular "007 Medley Vol.1" and many people bought that mix not realizing this was available as a single on its own. As far as any exposure that it got, once the few copies sold out at Central Station, they didn't order any more copies of it. It came and went like a ship in the night. That doesn't detract from the fact that this record was a scorching hot High NRG release that got snapped up by many disco fanatics, me being one of them.
"LIVING ALONE WITH A DOCTOR SEX"....
Great to see the first Pleasure And The Beast 12 inch made it all the way to Australia! The band emerged out of the ashes of the criminally under-rated early eighties UK band Shock who created some incredible tracks..the other 12 inch they released 'Gods Empty Chair' is pretty excellent as well (pretty sure it is doing the filesharing/blog rounds as thats where I got my rip from!)
ReplyDeleteOne of the members went onto be part of The Silencers and disco-heads will remember the John Luongo mix of their Painted Moon track, total classic!
Any left-field/weird/electronic hi-energy cross-overs from the early 80s like this are very appreciated!
