Cuba Libre.....

Well...It's not "Rocket science" to figure out this group "Modern Rocketry"was in the Hi-NRG realm, and dominated Club dance floors back in the 80's. This is one of my favorite groups. Finding this record with two remixes of "Homosexuality" on the B-side was an amazing moment, and my first introduction to the GREYHOUND label, which I soon learned were to release many fantastic Hi-NRG records that were equally awesome.

The men in my life.....

After buying quite a few records on the JDC label and never being disappointed I grabbed this as soon as I saw it was a new release on JDC. It was another gamble that payed off, because this twelve inch became a very big Hi-NRG hit for "Miriam Lee" and ended up charting quite well in the U.S. It runs a bit faster than many of the other records of the genre, almost 140bpm, my opinion on these songs being any faster than about 135bpm is that they're less likely to mix easily with a majority of other tracks that hover around 130bpm & actually start to make the songs sound awkwardly fast. (It's a DJ thing!)...

This late 80's release by the "Shooting Party" is another production by Phil Harding and Ian Curnow for PWL. It's a high quality production and a nice commercial sound.

My first experience hearing MECCANO was when I heard their single "Down down Romeo". I remember thinking how fantastic it sounded, and it was a great surprise to me when I went to buy that single and found "Crashing Down" by Legear on the B-side! A similar thing happened when I bought their single "Activate my heart". I discovered that it was actually the B-Side to "Ipnotica" which I was only slightly familiar with, but loved it just as much. I'll give you the versions from both sides so you just know how great this record is. It's an Italo Disco Masterpiece!

FEELIN' A BIT GUILTY ?

Spending all my money on records over the many years "YES" but regrets? Not really. Anyway, this song has nothing to do with that. This is another Bobby Orlando produced classic featuring his usual depressing lyrics about a break up. One of many that were written about the same theme. That doesn't mean there's a fault with any of his songs, on the contrary, the tones of deep pounding synth that radiate from these productions make them all the more impressive when coupled with the "sometimes simplistic" yet dramatic lyrical content. This was always a favorite.

I'm putting two versions here for you to enjoy. One was a standard Extended version on the MATRA label, the other was a remix on the B-Side of a Special Dutch version of "Native Love" by Divine.

Unexpected Lovers...

Without doubt the phenomenal productions of Denis & Denise Le Page have left a mark in the history books of 80's Hi-NRG music. The stunning cover art was always a favorite of mine and they never released a single that ever disappointed me, regardless of whether or not it was an uptempo disco tune or a slow ballad. Lime are just an all round Joy to listen to.

This was a 3 track E.P that contained a remix of the song Unexpected Lovers on the B-Side of Gold Digger. It has some extra strings and an extended break in the middle. Some fans of the song will also recognize a slightly different percussion throughout the song on this version.

From a whisper to a scream.....

This was always a favorite of mine. It is my opinion that this record is one of the better Bobby Orlando productions. It was remixed several times on Bobby's own "Bobcat" label, and featured on countless Hi-NRG medleys. The record I have here is the Mexican pressing. I love this record "De Murmullo A Grito" - "Whisper to a scream"!!
